Committee Passes Million Solar Roofs Bill on Party Line Vote
http://www.solarbuzz.com/News/NewsNAGO269.htm

The California Million Solar Roofs bill, SB 1, was passed by the Assembly Appropriations Committee today.

“The size and scope of this bill is California’s chance to once again set the pace for the rest of the country in terms of developing clean energy,” said Bernadette Del Chiaro, clean energy advocate for Environment California, the leading advocate for the Million Solar Roofs bill. “As energy costs soar and air pollution browns our skies, tapping into our clean abundant sunshine is a win-win solution for everyone.”

The Million Solar Roofs bill, coauthored by Sen. Kevin Murray and Asm. Lloyd Levine, aims to build 3,000 MW of solar panels on a million roofs, including half of all new homes, in roughly ten years and represents the biggest solar policy in the country. Over the past six months, the Million Solar Roofs bill has passed three committees in the Assembly as well as the full Senate.

Today’s vote was the final committee vote scheduled for the bill. It now heads to the Assembly Floor for a vote some time before September 9th, the last day of session.
