It takes the storm just to the west of New Orleans. And BAMM takes it into the FL panhandle.
Not that these scenarios are set, but it's a reminder that hurricane season is only now approaching its peak (I believe the statistical peak is September 15th).

4. I would give anything for two 5 gallon cans of gas right now. |
|
There is no gas in Pensacola and no gas cans left anywhere - no one can evacuate.
I have a full tank but it would just leave me stranded somewhere on I-65 N with thousands of other evacuees (think Linear New Orleans Disaster).
If I had that extra gas I could get to Birmingham or Atlanta.
If I could get to either one, I could get to Maine.
If some of the early models are correct, it will rake the entire FL Panhandle and make landfall in LA.

HaHaHa, you funny!!
This is aMerika, home of the four wheel drive living room. The Reich-Wing dictatorship is trying to kill off what little inter-city rail remains.

8. The only AMTRAK train serving Pensacola is out of service due to Katrina |
|
It was the Sunset Limited.
It's route was Jacksonville to New Orleans to Los Angeles and it only came through PNS once a week (at 1250 AM).

5. We're all jittery, but not every potential system becomes a storm. |
|
It is possible that the thing will peter out by hitting land before it develops too much, is it not?
Over the long term however it does seem to me, although I am not a meteorologist, that the powerful hurricanes are just one more facet of global climate change, the environmental and human problem which in my mind, frightens me far beyond all other issues of any type. With this in mind, even if we miss some bullets of various systems, it is almost inevitable that destruction (of all types) will continue unabated. If threats are not realized now; they will be realized soon.
The planet may wash humanity off its surface like a bad case of the crabs.
