.... exponential growth of the problems we have created.

It's like this maxim: If you push something hard enough, it will fall over

Falling over is a sudden release of the status quo, right? A Rapid change.

For years the force pushing on ecology has been building. When the ecology has finally been pushed hard enough, it will fall over.

Being as we don't have the capabilities of making a new sustainable ecology, but do posses the capabilities of pushing the ecology, it will eventually fall over.
