Former transport tsar ‘regrets’ climate policy (UK)
By Jenifer Johnston

<snip> Professor David Begg, director at the Centre for Transport Policy at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, was chairman of the Commission for Integrated Transport (CfIT) from 1998 until March of this year.

The academic, who is due to address a conference called Radical Solutions to Transport Problems in London on Tuesday, said: “When I was advising the government I didn’t focus as much as I should have on climate change, and I regret that.

“My worry is that we are sleepwalking into disaster on climate change. I have a real fear that we have left things too late to reverse the damage.” <snip>

The UK has said it is trying to reach “beyond” the Kyoto agreement on tackling climate change, and has set a target of reducing carbon dioxide emissions to 20% below 1990 levels by 2010. The Scottish Executive also announced in June that it will unveil separate Scottish targets by the end of this year. <snip> http://www.sundayherald.com/51804

1. He's going to have a lot of company

Unfortunately, he's probably right about the "too late" part.

2. Shame you didn't do much while you were actually in office, Dr. . . .
But then, we're well accustomed to just that thing over here as well. :eyes:
