Farm losses in midwestern drought to exceed Katrina related farm losses.
"WASHINGTON - Farm losses from Hurricane Katrina will approach $900 million this year, and the persistent summer drought that plagued the Midwest will cost those farmers about $1.3 billion, the Agriculture Department said Tuesday.

"Given the severity of the hurricane, the agricultural losses could have been much greater," Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns said in releasing the department's preliminary estimate.

The estimate doesn't account for long-term losses from the hurricane, such as damage to barns, equipment buildings, fences and machinery, he said. Neither does it include the cost of degraded farm fields, livestock carcass disposal, power losses and fuel shortages..."

Just in case you bought the Bush line global climate change was good for the economy. (It's not likely that any here, other than coal apologists, buy that line.)

3. From what I hear, God is trying to tell us that he hates gay people.
That's why Dennis, Ophelia, Katrina, Frances, Ivan and now it appears Rita and all the others are all plowing into that hot bed of Gay Pride, the deep South.

4. I'd like to believe that some fearless leader out there...
is saying "holy shit, we'd better come up with a major, nationwide plan to adapt to these changes."

That's what I'd like to believe.

5. Our leader is fearless.
He has no fear of harm to himself. He's - as he famously put it several times himself - "out of harm's way."

Some tracks have the inland track of Rita going near Crawford. What this means of course is that Bush will vacation at Camp David.

6. Come to think of it, you're right. What we need is more fearful leaders.
A little fear is a healthy thing! It's your glands trying to tell you something important...
