Conference on climate change makes mark
Participants in a Las Vegas conference on climate change said they hope the event spurs greater cooperation between researchers and water managers as they try to better understand the effects of global warming.

"It's important for scientists to work more closely with decision makers," said Brad Udall, director of the Colorado-based Western Water Assessment. "We have incredible talents in this country, and we need to just turn them loose on this and get it solved."

Ken Albright, director of resources for the Southern Nevada Water Authority, said a better understanding of global warming and its impact on water resources is especially important for his agency right now. After all, the water authority plans to spend several billion dollars over the next 10 years to pipe groundwater to Las Vegas from as far north as White Pine County.

"That would be a quick, career-ending decision if climate change and global warming kept us from getting anything out of all that," Albright said.
