Hurricane Stan kills 51 in Central America, damages oil ports.
"VERACRUZ, Mexico (Reuters) - Hurricane Stan smacked into Mexico's Gulf coast on Tuesday, forcing evacuations and shutting down oil ports after killing at least 51 people in Central America.

The storm came ashore 85 miles southeast of the city of Veracruz as a Category One hurricane with winds of nearly 80 mph (128 kph), although it then weakened to a tropical storm.

"The weather is terrible, it's raining and windy. Some of the trees are falling down," hotel worker Nabor Sandoval said from Veracruz, a normally balmy, laid-back colonial port..."

1. I Wonder what Their Sin Was

If Sin is the reason this sort of stuff happens......Let ask Franklin Graham and Jerry Fallwell.

4. I'm not sure I believe that people should get what they deserve,

but on the other hand I do know fossil fuel apologists who whine and cry endlessly - if insipidly - about hurricanes and their effects.

Some of them deal with the matter much as they deal with everything -make themselves even more oblivious, usually by pickling their brains, not that the pickling should be confused with preservation.

:hangover:

Oh my god, a cracked crucible! I gotta run! It's the end of the world!

:hide:

Seriously, probably the dead are the usual - the poor, about whom spoiled brat trust fund institutionalized cases, like their Repuke blood brothers, don't give a flying fuck.

3. So what are the odds?
Two significant oil ports in a month?

Imagine those odds.

5. In the case of the Gulf, the odds are pretty good.
The Gulf is mined for a lot of oil, and so there are plenty of oil ports, refineries, etc, along it's shores.

And it's a shallow, partially enclosed body of water, so it heats up easy. So, it's prone to hurricanes.

7. I'm pretty sure it came from the Pacific
Now, if it can just get loose over the central Gulf . . .

Don't even want to THINK about that.

8. No, it came ashore from the Gulf, after crossing the peninsula.
