Interesting thing pointed out today in a Kos diary:

The 29,000 Colorado Windsource participants who now pay as much as $6 more a month for "green power" soon will pay up to $10 less than their neighbors who use conventionally generated electricity.

Higher natural-gas prices are driving this abrupt change in the economics of Xcel's voluntary wind-power purchase plan.

1. Update: program swamped by new enrollees.

Xcel took 2,967 new applications for Windsource in October, more than 15 times the normal monthly volume.

As a result, the program is now fully subscribed with 33,265 Colorado customers and has a waiting list of 1,100.

Henley of Xcel said the utility hasn't determined when it will add additional wind power to accommodate the Windsource waiting list and future applicants.

"We had anticipated that the plan wouldn't be fully subscribed for another 1 1/2 years," he said.
