"Global Warming is a lie" ....what would the motive be?
I've heard so many conservatives saying that Global Warming is a lie. I have one question: What motive would anyone have to spread this kind of lie? I can see the motives for lying that there ISN'T any global warming ($$$$$ for gas, oil and big industry) but why would scientists lie and say globabl warming is real if it isn't? What do the cons think the motive is? Scientists just get off on scaring people? It doesn't make sense and I just wondered if any of you had heard a conservative tell you exactly what they think the motive would be for a scientist to lie about this.

1. I've heard it explained this way
We liberals want everyone to stop using gas and oil so that that we can steal it for ourselves.

Then we're all going to retire to our mansions in the forest.

Oh, and we hate America.

2. From what I have heard cons say...
Scientists want to get grant money and become famouse (becuase climatologists are liek basketbal stars, you know)

and environmentalists want to destroy Capitalism.

however, the idea that corporations woud try to distort the science to save Billions in profits. Becuase who ever heard of scamming people for ..Money?!

a conspiracy thoerists AND grossly knieve...astro -turf cons are a special kind of stupid.

3. The least crazy rationalization I've heard is...
that climate researchers blow it out of proportion so that they continue to get funding. I think the idea is that if they "told the truth" that global warming isn't a big problem, then nobody would see the need to fund them.

4. I think the point here is:
whether global warming exists or not, what is the problem with protecting the environment? They're just parroting party line, which is subterfuge for relaxing restrictions on big corporations.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

6. Mental illness.

Seriously. If someone is deliberately denying something of this magnitude, then they are refusing to confront and accept reality. That is a mental deficiency when someone refuses to accept reality and/or facts.

Evolution is another such issue. It has been proven that evolution is a fact, not a theory. Why others want to hold on to images of fig leafs and ribs, is beyond me.

7. Mainly because today's Repukes are the "Me Generation"
realizing that they have a finite amount of time on this Earth . . . and they want to use up all of what they can . . . no vision for the real future . . . unless you're talking about some rich relative dying and leaving them their money . . .

8. I heard one freeper actually say "scientists are scapegoating the climate
Edited on Fri Oct-14-05 11:46 PM by applegrove
- and scapegoating is wrong". How sad is that. The first time the right doesn't scapegoat 5 years. We can now safely say that all science is bad and evil and against god's way. :sarcasm:
