Judge Halts Aerial Wolf Hunting In Alaska As Illegal - ADN
Alaska's lethal wolf control program, under which hundreds of wolves have been killed, is illegal, a judge ruled Tuesday. In a case going back to November 2003, Superior Court Judge Sharon Gleason ruled that the state failed to follow its own regulations when it authorized the aerial wolf control program, where pilot and gunner teams were allowed to shoot the wolves from the air.

Given the judge's ruling, the program has been suspended, Matt Robus, director of the state Division of Wildlife Conservation, said soon after the judge issued her ruling. People with permits to kill wolves in the five areas of the state where the program is under way were being notified, he said.

"Meanwhile, our attorney is still analyzing what the judge had to say," Robus said. "Based on what we hear from him we will decide if there are technical things that can be addressed or whether it is bigger than that." Gleason, who went over more than 2,000 pages of documents offered by the state, found that the Alaska Board of Game did not follow some or all of the state's regulations when it authorized the program in the five areas. The court found "that the Board of Game failed to adhere to its own regulation regarding the control of predation by wolves when it adopted these aerial control plans," Gleason said in her 32-page ruling.

3. Why the fuck do they need to "control" wolves in Alaska? This is sick.
Good for the judge who has ruled that this practice is illegal (not to mention totally non-sporting)

 Poor wolves.

5. Wolves
This is really nothing new, they destroy crops, kill farm animals, and otherwise make a nuisance of themselves. Now, this is not to say that they should all be shot and exterminated, we did that once in the lower 48 and we're just now trying to reintroduce them. But it's important to understand why practices like this exist. If you're a farmer and some wolves are destroying your livelihood are you going to want to take good care of the wolves? Probably not. More than likely you're gonna want them dead.

6. this is s sorry argument. my family was in sheep herding and they
never lost a single one to a wolf. As for the shooting of them up here, its politics pure and simple. We voted this down forever but our governor, Frank MurFUCKski put it in to help fat cats moose hunt. They desiccimated the Denali pack, the most photographed in the world. There aren't words for the horror of this.

9. Destroy crops?

Where the fuck did you study biology?

If I'm having trouble with wildlife, as I sometimes do with racoons, I will shoot the little bastards if I find them near my turtle pen. I will not initiate a pogram against against all of the racoons in the county. This is about providing more targets(moose) for well off hunters and more profits for outfitters. More, more, more.

4. My Aunt went on vacation to Alaska
They were hiking about 60 miles NE of Anchorage, this is the middle of the Summer there. Anyways, their guide accidentally took them right towards a pack of wolves. My aunt said there were about 10-15 of them, and they charged the group. The guide ended up having to shoot one and they ran away.

Alaska is perhaps the last great American frontier, enjoy it while you can.
