MA: Hull Wind II gets delivered.
Sad that a little operation like Hull is the biggest wind news in this state...

It’s so big it arrived in pieces on a barge and had to be driven by tractor to its new home atop the George Washington Boulevard landfill.

About 30 Massachusetts communities, including Quincy and Kingston, are just now considering or acquiring wind power, while Hull is in its fourth year of reaping its benefits.

In Massachusetts, current proposals include the politically tangled Cape Wind project and a 20-turbine wind farm that will straddle the line between the western towns of Florida and Monroe, but that project is tied up in litigation. In the Cape Cod town of Orleans, local officials are awaiting the arrival of two turbines that will power a municipal water-filtration plant and leave a little left-over power to sell to the grid.

1. The NIMBYs have to decide; Electricity, or wind turbines?
There are no other present options.

4. Great inspiration...80meter prop/1.8 megaWatt to add to 660kWatt install.
The 28% of rated power Hull averages means 0.281x660KWatt=185 kiloWatt of energy produced continuously. Or, each day=185kW x 24hr = 4440 kWatt=hrs
I pay 12 cents per kwatt-hour in So. Cal.
They SELL at 8 cents, or $0.08 x 4440kW-hr=$355/day (Gross Income from Power Company)

The new machine should do the 28.1% as well, so it's income crunches to $968 income/day

NICE! If anybody knows where it's windy, this is a future investment strategy with zero emission

5. I think what makes wind power so attractive as an investment...
...is that there are no 'manufacturing inputs' needed, just intial capital costs and maintenance. That makes operating costs very low comparatively.

Once you get your wind turbine built, there's little risk of market actions (other than labor costs) forcing you to raise rates, as opposed to the costs of ethanol production being tied to sugar crop prices, bio-diesel on oil seed prices, nukes on the availability of uranium fuel to some extent, etc...

10. Tidal technology and thermal also rank as " mfg. input " FREE the future
is here, if we can just embrace it, fearlessly. GREED doesn't seem to work in this instance, but ignorance and fear of learning new technology does.

13. The plains states - North Dakota could meet one fourth of our entire
nations electrical energy needs. IF wind farms could be financed the same as utilities finance coal and gas fired plants the cost of wind power would go down another 40%!!!

6. Ted Kennedy's and RFK Jr's opposition bothers me
I've read the family is intested in a gas pipeline on the cape. If this is true, it reduces my respect for them. Even if its not true, it bothers me. There's no environmental defense. In my mind, the ecosystems will be a lot more damaged by warmer temps than by the wind turbines.

7. anywhere near a coastline has daily onshore and offshore winds
'sea breeze and land breeze'.

Of course, I'd imagine a hurricane would really tear up a wind turbine. ;-)

9. Yet another example of Dems failing to take the lead on a big issue...
and failing to differentiate themselves from the GOP. Some days, my stance as a democrat feels pretty hypothetical. I'm advocating for the party they used to be, or might be in theory.
