Nine Italian Cities Ban Cars Downtown 10 AM - 6 PM In Bid To Fight Smog
Cars were banned Sunday from the centre of nine Italian towns and cities, including Rome and Turin, in an effort to cut pollution.
The 10:00 am to 6:00 pm ban was also imposed in Alessandria, Vercelli, Varese, Cremona, Trento, Frosinone and Verona.

The five regions in which these towns are located frequently record pollution levels higher than European norms.

A similar measure was taken in Rome and Milan over the last week, with traffic being restricted to odd-numbered registration plates one day and even ones the next.

1. The registration thing doesn't work.
All that happens is people buy two old beaters instead of one new car. They make sure the old cars each have different odd or even numbers and then drive different cars every other day. The down side it the old cars pollute more and get worse gas milage then a single new car.
