PARK CITY, Utah (Hollywood Reporter) - Former Vice President Al Gore, often accused of being stiff throughout his unsuccessful 2000 presidential campaign, was full of anger and passion as he visited the Sundance Film Festival this week. Since losing the presidency, the self-described "recovering politician" has found a new mission: saving the planet.
He began by making the rounds of college towns on his own as he delivered his PowerPoint lecture on global warming. But now he's got a new ally in Hollywood. With the assistance of filmmaker Davis Guggenheim, Gore's message rings loud and clear in the Sundance documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."

The film also includes a clip about global warming from the animated TV series "Futurama," which was written in part by daughter Kristin Gore. ("Futurama" creator Matt Groening and News Corp. president Peter Chernin gave the filmmakers the clip for free.) When producer Laurie David, environmentalist wife of "Seinfeld" co-creator Larry David, first saw Gore's presentation about the swift and inexorable pace of global warming, she arranged for Gore to do his show-and-tell for a group of Hollywood people. She brought in Guggenheim, a veteran TV director.
Internet billionaire-turned-producer Jeff Skoll saw the presentation and wanted in as well. "Skoll made the movie possible," Gore said. "Davis drove the creative vision to make the movie." Fox News Channel chairman and CEO Roger Ailes saw Gore's presentation in New York, and he moved fast to mount a show on global warming on his network. "The right-wing bloggers haven't forgiven him since," said Gore, who hopes to pull together bipartisan support for his cause.
