Overall gasoline production up at California refineries during maintenance
season

Sacramento-Overall gasoline production in California refineries - which
includes gasoline for export to neighboring states as well as California's
unique blend of cleaner-burning fuel - was up 3.4 percent from the
previous week, according to the Weekly Fuels Watch Report issued today by
the California Energy Commission.

California reformulated gasoline production, when considered alone, fell
1.5 percent from the previous week, a 5.5 percent drop from one year ago.
Refiners averaged 872,857 barrels a day of the California-only gasoline.
Despite the decline in production, inventories of reformulated gasoline
increased 4.4 percent from the previous week and are 5.8 percent more
abundant than at this time last year, indicating plentiful supplies.

Production of California diesel this week increased only 1.8 percent from
the previous week but was 16.4 percent higher when compared to this time
last year. Inventories of CARB diesel fell 13.0 percent over the week but
were still 9.6 percent higher than one year ago.

California refiners are well into the annual turnaround season-the time
of year when planned maintenance shuts down some gasoline and diesel
production units. Repairs and upgrades should continue on a
staggered schedule into March, as many refiners retool to meet new federal
standards that go into effect June 1, 2006, for ultra-low sulfur diesel
fuel.

Commission's Web site at
