A question for hatrack and the other here:
If some virus or other disaster wiped out most humans and thus civilization RIGHT NOW, have we passed the "tipping point" in global warming, where things like the shutting down of ocean currents will still happen?

2. Probably
I think that's what is becoming clear this last year. There are now climatic feedback processes in motion that will continue even if we aren't here. If we continue to spew crap into the atmosphere as we do know, it will get much worse than it would without us, but there are already climate changes already in progress that can't be stopped.

3. My understanding is yes
we're past the tipping point, the only question now is how difficult we continue to make it to pull back to minimize suffering and hopefully minimize expense/effort of pulling back to a stable (as far as a planet like Earth can be in terms of climate) habitable condition again after the worse effects peak.

6. Thank you. Looks like everyone who knows what they are
talking about (I do not have enough specialized knowledge) agrees, we are past the "tipping point" .... that is not good ...:scared:
