Oz Minister Warned CSIRO Not To Comment On Water Policy
A federal minister called CSIRO scientists into his office and warned them to be careful about demanding an overhaul of water policy, a Senate committee heard.

CSIRO group executive for sustainable energy and environment Dr Steve Morton said in October 2003 then science minister Peter McGauran asked CSIRO scientists to visit his office.

CSIRO and other scientists in the so-called Wentworth Group had been warning that climate change could have a great impact on the Murray-Darling River.

They were emphasising the sustainable use of the river, including curbs on water usage - not always a message irrigators wanted to hear.
