bu$h didn't even mention the environment in the SOTU |
|
I guess he's giving up even the illusion of giving a damn. Why are our people not hammering him on this? It's a freebie! I believe it was in LCV that I read that 85% of americans consider themselves environmentalist. While that number is certainly deceptive(just because you say you're "for" the environment doesn't necessarily translate into reality), we've surely got a stick to beat him with that can't easily be parried. Do the Democrats fear pissing of their own coporate supporters?

Every time he proposes another environmental initiative you just know Mother Nature is about to be raped once more. "Clear Skies" softened anti-pollution regulations and allows polluters to pour more toxins into the environment. "Healthy Forests" turns the stewardship of our timber resources over to his asshole buddies in the logging industry. I'm not sure what name he has given his proposal to allow higher arsenic levels in our drinking water while permitting industry to pump more industrial waste into our rivers and streams. Probably something along the lines of "Pure Water".

2. I noticed that - not a single word |
|
Though as 2dumb2b noted, maybe just as well.
He doesn't give a shit about the issue and this speech was just another signal that he doesn't.
Don't worry, though - I'm sure that, come late April, he'll put on his work gloves and khaki slacks and stand next to some trees as a demonstration of his sincere desire to win the election.

He didn't say a single word about AIDS/HIV or Africa, his highly touted foray into compassionativity from last year's SOTU.
Sex slaves, another popular topic one year ago, were also absent.
He also didn't say a single thing about agriculture, except for in passing: " . . . to open up new markets for America's entrepreneurs and manufacturers, and farmers . . . " while praising his own record on "free and fair trade." Quick! Look! There it went - the word "farmers". That was fast.
Here's the sum total of his comments on energy policy: "Consumers and businesses need reliable supplies of energy to make our economy run - so I urge you to pass legislation to modernize our electricity system, promote conservation and make America less dependent on foreign sources of energy." Gosh, George, sounds great! How shall we accomplish that?
The hydrogen car apparently had trouble getting out of the garage and into the speech.
In addition, neither the Moon or Mars appeared over the Capitol. I guess that particular trial balloon leaked and sank without much of a sound after last week's heavily promoted "visionary" speech.
