Ex-Portuguese Prime Minister presses argues for nuke power consideration.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, was previously the Prime Minister of Portugal, a country that is now devastated by global climate change.

He is pressing for Europe to consider nuclear power to address the crisis that is destroying his native land:

The European Union must consider the greater use of all alternatives to fossil fuels, including nuclear power, to meet its energy needs, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said Thursday.

"Europe needs a more coordinated energy policy based on the principles of diversification of sources, security of supply and sustainability," he told reporters in Lisbon on the sidelines of an economics conference.

"We feel the answer lies in increasing the efficient use of energy and the development of alternatives, taking into account respect for the environment. No option, including the nuclear option, should be ruled out," he added.
