SAAB Bio-Power FFV gets just as good as mileage on Ethanol85 as on
gasoline.

The European Union is committed to cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and a fleet of
Saab 9-5 BioPower models will be demonstrated in five EU countries, as well as China and Brazil. Under the BEST (BioEthanol for Sustainable Transport) initiative, public authorities and large company fleet operators will have the opportunity to test and evaluate our BioPower vehicles.

...
400 cars alone have already been bought by the car rental giant Avis, and Hans Larsson, Director of Procurement at Avis Sweden, was enthusiastic about their purchase:
..
“The flexibility of the Saab 9-5 BioPower also makes it far more practical to use when compared to some hybrid and CNG-powered cars we have tried."

Saab is owned by GM and GM engineers were involved in the design of this engine.

During the development of the BioPower engine, Saab engineers liaised with General Motors colleagues in Brazil where 100 percent ethanol (E100), produced locally from sugar cane, is the dominant fuel on the market.

"Our engine management system automatically adjusts for the type of fuel so, if there is no ethanol available, the customer can simply run on gasoline at any time," says Kjell ac Bergström, President and CEO of Saab Automobile Powertrain AB. "Turbocharged engines are particularly well-suited to exploiting the benefits of ethanol and our work with this engine indicates there is a great deal of development potential for this fuel."
