Wind farm options bought in (Aroostook) County (ME)

ST. AGATHA - A Delaware-based company involved in wind energy is taking options on hundreds of acres of farm and forestland in the central St. John Valley where a wind farm could be located, if wind tests are positive.

The town of St. Agatha got in on some of the action this week by signing a five-year option for 30 acres. The land was the site of the former landfill the town had on a cross road between Routes 161 and 162.

The town will get $2,000 for signing the option with Aroostook Wind Energy LLC, the previous name of the company looking into wind energy along a range of hills in the Fort Kent-Frenchville-St. Agatha area.

<snip>

A few weeks before the meeting in Fort Kent, Herter had told the Maine Land Use Commission that Linekin was interested in constructing a 500-megawatt wind farm somewhere in northern Aroostook County. Such a facility could require up to 300 turbines.

edit: this is hugh!!!1111 for northern Maine...

1. Wow, can you put 10 turbines on an acre in Maine or is this
just a toe-hold in the community?
