My town is looking to build a wind turbine
A single wind turbine owned & operated by the town would produce enough electricity to supply 400 homes.

There is going to be a Town Meeting vote in April

like the one in Hull ( my town is Ipswich, Mass, north of Boston on the coast.

Yay for Wind Power! This is very exciting
There's hope yet, people!

3. We do in Vermont, and I gotta confess
that I have mixed feeling about some of the larger scale proposals.

8. I can understand that
There have been two different companies that have wanted to site turbine farms in my area. The first company was far more ambitious and wanted to site nearly 40 turbines on a hill outside of town. They just gave up after investing a good deal of money in wind studies and such because of the anti-windmill extremists. But they shouldn't have been allowed to build because the town was getting nothing in return and not even a contractual obligation to pay for maintenance or dismantling of the turbines should the company building them ever go out of business.

The second company has had a much less ambitious project sited on a different hill with only about a dozen turbines maximum. They are willing to work with the town and address concerns (such as a new blade design that is supposed to minimize risk to birds). Yet the anti-windmill crowd is still vehemently opposing the project with "polluting the viewshed" as their default position.

4. Yes, against the Nantucket wind farm project-
I get the feeling they are rich, snobby people, who don't want their 'view' of
the ocean changed.

Unfortunately it looks like they are going to win, and that project is not going to
happen.

6. Call Kerry tomorrow.

Cleanwater just sent out an action alert on this, in case you're not on their list. They want to get us all calling Kerry's office to encourage him to meet with the rest of the Senators on Young's committee and encourage them to kill his ammendment.

7. wow, I just spent several minutes looking over that site....
It's pretty professional and slick, but in the end it comes down to "I want cheap fossil fuel generated electricity that is generated in someone else's backyard. Wind power reminds me too much of the real costs of an energy intensive lifestyle."

You have to wonder who is financing this campaign and why. That particular website domain is registered to Fishers Asset Management which appears to be a management company affiliated with billionaire NYS gubernatorial candidate Tom Golisano.

All the Greens (and most liberals) in our area are completely opposed to the windmills yet seem to have no problem taking their information from websites such as this.

On edit: Which puts me in the uncomfortable position of being a liberal who is direct opposition with just about every other liberal in my area. :grr: :banghead:
