Glass-laced honey used to poison Pyrenees bears
French authorities have taken legal action against anti-bear activists who planted honey laced with glass shards in the Pyrenees mountains, the environment ministry said Thursday.

Twelve pots, marked "Caution: anti-bear poison", were found in the southwestern region, where a group of Slovenian brown bears are being released to boost the species' population in the face of fierce local protests.

(...)

Opponents have mounted a sometimes violent campaign against their release, claiming the bears, which will join 18 already roving the region, will pose a serious threat to hikers, shepherds and livestock.

(...)

The only indigenous Pyreneean bears left are all males, after a hunter shot the last remaining female, prompting a government pledge to double the local bear population over the next three years.

5. Just goes to show...
when it comes to saving the environment, there is really no hope.

The next generation will inherit a burned out cinder of a world.

6. It defines most starkly me versus them.
It's the mind set that feels that the animals and fauna of this planet exist for our our caprice and whim
that shows me how vastly different I am from those who think this way.
I may behave aloof from my natural surroundings but I have no doubt about my dependence on
nature and it's variety.
The disconnect between western folks and their natural environment is the achilles heel of our
great and powerful civilization as I see it. We will learn in no pleasant way who is really in charge one day.
Nature bats last.

9. I heard on the radio tonight,
an ad by a pest control company.

It was a rant about how bad honey bees are. How they sting, swarm, and "the only good bee is a dead bee".

I was truly shocked. My yard is loaded with bees for about a month in the spring. They pollenate the trees and plants, and never pay any attention to me at all.

I am 57, and was stung 43 years ago when I stepped on one. I rekon I'd fight back if someone stepped on me.

Why do some people feel the need to KILL all the bees? Kill the bees, wave bye-bye to flowers and trees.

10. In that case, it's all about a pest control company making biz for itself.
I would bet they know better, but they don't mind lying if it gets them more business. Or, maybe they really are that ignorant?
