BUSH PLAN CUTS OR ELIMINATES OVER A DOZEN ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAMS:
From Today's Progress Report:

During this year's State of the Union, President Bush said, "America is addicted to oil. ... The best way to break this addiction is through technology." (In 2004, he promised to "promote conservation" and in 2002, he asked Congress to "encourage conservation" and "promote technology.") But the Christian Science Monitor reports today that Bush's energy plan "whacks conservation." "If Congress accepts the Energy Department's proposed 2007 budget, it will cut $152 million - some 16 percent - from this year's budget for energy-efficiency programs." The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy says that adjusted for inflation, these cuts would "mean the US government would spend 30 percent less on energy efficiency next year than it did in 2002." The budget would cut by a third the Industrial Technologies Program, which "routinely saves the United States $7 worth of energy for each dollar it spends" and would completely eliminate the Heavy Vehicle Propulsion and Ancillary Subsystems, which "helps improve the fuel efficiency of heavy-duty trucks, one of the nation's biggest oil consumers." Similar programs that increase energy efficiency in new buildings and buses also face draconian cuts.

2. Didn't he tell us recently that we were going to be off foreign oil in
under 20 years or whatever?

Scientists and engineers can't do it for free.

And as America uses the most energy, America should be spearheading the problem - and reclaim its status as best nation in the world.

FWIW, once my debt is done I'm going into engineering. I'll be back in debt, but it'll be worth it.

Seriously, this man is driving this nation right off a cliff. And he knows damned well what he is doing. He wants us all dead, I am convinced of it.

I guess he thinks he and all his friends will just get raptured to heaven and we sinners will be suitably punished for eternity being stuck on the mess he's made of the earth.........

10. Does this even make any sense?
But others are skeptical of the value of most Department of Energy programs and especially energy-efficiency programs. They say the latter should be provided by the private sector, not government.

"When energy prices are high, you don't need to subsidize conservation efforts," says Jerry Taylor, director of natural resource studies for the Cato Institute, a Washington think tank. "These are subsidies that qualify as corporate welfare."

13. criminal stupidity.

"A few years ago a little-known US Energy Department program helped produce a design technology for lightweight cars and trucks that in 2004 alone saved the nation 122 million barrels of oil, or about $9 billion.

Even without that breakthrough, the tiny Industrial Technologies Program routinely saves the United States $7 worth of energy for each dollar it spends, proponents say."

If this stupidity makes you mad go to www.congress.org - they makeit easy to email your congressmen and senators. Tell them developing greater energy efficincy and reneawabe technologies is CRITICAL. If enough people send emails, you can start to have an effect.
