U.S. Coal Review, April 24, 2006 TXU announces plans for 11 new coal plants in Texas
TXU plans for construction of 11 new coal plants in Texas totalling 6400 MW of power, burning Powder River Basin coal. 2200 MW of this would burn lignite. The plants would include advanced BACT environmental control technology for Sox, NOx, and mercury, including a new IGCC facility. Much of the capacity would replace combined cycle natural gas that is forecast as more expensive and subject ot disruptions and price variability.
