New Jersey nuclear production fell in 2004.

In 2003 nuclear energy produced 53% of New Jersey's electricity, but in 2004 it produced only 48% of the electricity. The "other" category (renewables) also lost share in 2004, falling by 1% of total energy, while coal (rising 2% of total) and natural gas (rising 4% of total) took up the slack.

The reduction was not just in percentage terms, but in real terms:

In 2004, New Jersey produced 27.1 million kilowatt-hours of nuclear electricity, whereas in 2003, it produced 29.7 million kilowatt-hours

Things returned to normal in 2005, for which figures are now available. New Jersey produced 30.0 million kilowatt-hours of electricity last year.

Overall in 2005, New Jersey reactors, despite refueling at Hope Creek and both Salem reactors, ran at 86.1% of name plate capacity.

New Jersey did not perform as well as the rest of the United States in nuclear generation in 2005. Nuclear power produced 2.8 exajoules of electricity overall in the US in 2005, or (assuming 30% thermal efficiency) over 9 exajoules of primary energy in the US. The production represented 89.4% capacity utilization of the name plate power ratings.

The record for nuclear electricity produced in New Jersey was established in 2002, when 30.9 million MW-hrs were produced.
