Sat picture of the Lebanese oil spill-it is Huge!

The UN is warning of an environmental catastrophe in the Mediterranean as a large oil slick threatens the coasts of Lebanon and Syria. The oil largely stems from fuel tanks at the coastal power station at Jiyyeh, which was bombed by Israeli aircraft on 13 and 15 July.

6. On the fifth day, God created the birds of the air & the fishes of the sea
. . . after surveying his work, the Lord called it very good and rested."

In the 8th month of the year 2006, the Israelis, knowing full well that Hezbollah was not running operations from inside the fuel tanks, bombed said tanks, willfully unleashing an environmental catastrophe. In biblical terms, the Israelis shat on the work of their Lord. Chutzpah is defined as shameless audacity. This goes beyond chutzpah.

I just KNEW there was a reasonable explanation!

(Besides, there's no telling how many sea creatures in that area are Hizbollah sympathizers.)

I don't mean to make light of this but I really find any justification for this inconceivable; even the proliferating "it's an accident" excuse that pops up every time something of this nature happens. Sure no one intends for 70km of coastal waters to be turned into an oil marsh but at some point there has to be some sort of responsibility for actions undertaken. Otherwise it's just global anarchy.

20. Believe me, I didn't think you were making light of anything ...
... and neither am I. Sometimes you have to laugh, just to keep yourself from crying.

I notice that DU has been fairly bereft of Israel apologists of late -- or perhaps I'm just not seeing the threads they're posting on.

I think Israel has now gotten to the point where even their staunchest supporters have run out of reasonable explanations, no less excuses, for what's going on.

"How To Lose Friends and the Respect of the World in Less Than 30 Days" -- a sad outcome for a country that once had the support and sympathy of so many.

I passed the "Oh shit" moment long ago. Disbelief is still the norm for me.

On edit: you do know that urchins support the terrorists; especially when lightly crusted and served with wasabi

23. There will be a lot of Cajun-style food being served ...
... in that area for decades to come, like 'blackened fish' -- pre-blackened before it even gets to the chef, and no cooking oil needed to grease the pan!

God, what a world!

17. The only explanation: This, along w/ the destruction of all the fishing
boats in the various marinas along the coast now guarantees that the Lebanese people will have no food from the sea....of course, they will claim all those fishing boats were being used to bring in arms, so it was "self defense"..

Yeah right, more like genocide of the Lebanese people.... :grr:
