Slim chance Hurricane John might bite SoCal.
It keeps tracking to the right of forecasts. If it doesn't weaken as much as forecast then the very southern tip of California might taste a bit of it.

Here's the current probability of high winds according to NOAA.

1. As long as it's only hitting brown people, the American media doesn't care
Who cares about a Cat-3 hurricane brushing against Mexico when we have a TROPICAL DEPRESSION hitting Florida!

2. Funny you should mention that.

Other than KO giving it coverage on Countdown, the only other TV coverage I have seen is footage of -- shall we say, not exactly suntanned -- tourists cutting their vacations short.

3. A prediction I made several years ago . . .
. . . is that sometime in the next 10 years, a major hurricane will hit SoCal. All it takes is the right track plus warmer waters from global warming. Yipes.

4. I haven't looked.

But I was intrigued to know whether any hurricanes had ever ridden up the Gulf of California before. This one fortunately looks to be staying over land.

5. Oh, no. Don't say that. We already pay our dues with
earthquake risk.............

I guess this is the part where I am glad to live a few miles inland, up and over the Santa Monica Mountains.........

Right now it's hot as hell (though a good bit cooler than the inferno of 119 we hit last month)..........about 105-110 today. Some relief in the form of even a hurricane would be nice.
