Dawn of the "Solar Salon" in US Living Rooms
'One evening last month, a mix of philanthropists, charity executives and environmentalists gathered at the New York home of Peter Yarrow of the folk group Peter, Paul and Mary.

The topic of the evening was not 1960s music or world hunger, but solar power.

Across the United States, at similar gatherings, bankers and hedge fund managers rub shoulders with philanthropists and solar panel installers. These "solar salons" are orchestrated by Travis Bradford, a former fund manager and corporate buyout specialist, in an effort to hasten what he calls the inevitable uptake of solar power.

"My guess is the U.S. will have one of the fastest growth rates over next five years. One of the interesting things about the U.S. when compared to other industrialized countries is that it has more sun per capita," Bradford said in an interview with Reuters.

Bradford is founder of the Prometheus Institute for Sustainable Development, a group based in Cambridge Massachusetts that promotes the use of sustainable technologies.'

1. This is where all the money that went to the Iraqi war
should have gone...then they can't blackmail us with their oil - why is this so hard for the Republicans to understand? Or do they "get" it and really want to squeeze us? So who is really doing the blackmailing here?

2. i think that there's so much cynicism inherent in the non, anti-proactive...
anti-progressive practice of just holding with a death grip onto portfolio after portfolio of what they consider to be un-maturated fossil stocks, ventures, futures & commodities until light-sweet-crude oil virtually runs out!!

it will not look pretty in the least, as that group scratches & claws it's way to the bottom of that barrel to say the least:

as we look around the world we see other nations already making their contributions here & there in a variety of forward thinking technologies, but one needs to be a true visionary; american capitalists simply can't do without a slam dunk, they just won't put the money on the table, on the line, or where their mouth is so there's billions upon billions upon billions left to be made on a fossil infrastructure even as it diesels to a stop, "cha-boogety, cha-boogety, cha-boogety: POW!" and in the meantime they will use both us & our armed forces as pawns & canon fodder to get where they think they need to be

i think it is a no brainer that the world should be already girdled at the equator with solar panels but that's just me
