http://www.upi.com/Energy/view.php?StoryID=20061108-103827-4319rTEL AVIV, Israel, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Israeli solar thermal company Solel, nearing the close of a banner year, this week signed an $890 million agreement with Spanish firm Sacyr-Vallehermoso to build three 50-megawatt solar power stations.
"The realization of a project of this kind in Spain opens up a range of opportunities for Solel in an important market in which (the company) hadn't operated until now," Solel Chief Executive Officer Avi Brenmiller said in a statement.
The deal, Brenmiller said, "will show our technological advantages and our proven experience in the field of thermal-solar energy."
Electricity produced by the Solel-constructed plants will cost 30 cents per kilowatt hour, the company said. This is a subsidized rate -- the Spanish government incentive will last for a period of 25 years, to diversify the country's energy sources, to encourage environmentally friendly power stations and to support the production of energy locally.
