Tell the new Congressional Leadership what the priority ought to be |
|
In all the talk about the priorities of the incoming dem leadership there's be very little talk about addressing the climate crisis, the health of the ecology and therefore Us! 1. IMPEACHMENT (we can do more than one thing at a time...) |
|
Sure, save the long eared turtles, but justice is important too.

This is not some fringe issue or about a single or even a group of wildlife. It is about saving the Humans, and All of the ecology.
What the hell will impeachment mean when 50 years from now we're in the midst of a cataclysmic population crash due to starvation, disease and all the suffering that will be caused by global climate shifts? I'm sure people will look back and think - "Well sure they didn't do everything they could to reduce the suffering of their children and future generations but at least they booted W a couple years early."
Of course the congress must work on multiple issues. But there is such a thing as setting priorities and addressing climate change should be the top priority. I have a priority list of things I have to work on in my house, that doesn't mean I do nothing but the first priority but it does mean I do nothing that will get in the way of the first priority.
And frankly impeachment (as much as I think Kommander Kookoo Bananas deserves it) would likely only distract from this and other priorities and not accomplish much. Let the war crimes trials and history take care of it.
And even if you feel other things are more important, treating climate change with the kind of contempt shown by your phrasing is only perpetrating the right-wing, neocon, head in the sand attitude that will lead us down a path of prolonged and severe suffering.

3. Just a comment on the "impeachment" note |

The best way to reconcile both the need to punish Bush and the need to concentrate on urgent global issues is to use one of the GOP's own pet tactics against them: Tag a rider bill onto something that is guaranteed to pass (e.g., their annual pay increase) where the rider removes the US-claimed immunity to war-crimes charges. Nothing direct. Nothing that even mentions Bush or fellow criminals.
This way you will not waste time fighting for an impeachment that simply will not happen before his term limit is up (as it hasn't happened so far, there is *nothing* he could do that would provoke it) and it will allow the necessary pressure to be concentrated on the environmental issues NOW.
