In your opinion, what's the best environmental group to support financially?
I admit that my charitable giving has been limited to local organizations, but my 7-year-old son expressed an interest this morning in donating his sizeable chunk of charity savings (he's saved all year) to a group that is doing the most to help the planet. His main issue seems to be air quality, but he's open to other conservation groups, etc. I'd love some guidance on this! Thanks in advance.

1. I don't know which one is the best
but if your son is interested in air quality he might want to research:

They promote the planting of trees throughout the country and have been very successful at it. He may want to plant some himself.

Congratulations on raising a fine young son who apparently has his head on straight.

5. Florida League of Conservation is important group much underfunded
Edited on Tue Dec-19-06 12:45 PM by philb
They monitor all votes each year in the Florida Legislature with respect to environmental effects
as well as monitoring election irregularities.
www.Floridalcv.org/
www.flcv.com/ (Educational page)

www.flcv.com/eirstss6.html (election irregularities)

They are much underfunded much because they aren't a membership group with activities and outings and such like
other broader membership groups such as Sierra Club, who I think are pretty effective as a national organization
with local focus as well.

8. Thanks!
I used to live in Florida -- did not care for the people or the politics, but I adored the flora and fauna. I like to help out those groups that are underfunded whenever possible, instead of always going for the big, obvious choices. These are great, thanks!

I just wrote about this today. It is a good organization that provides potable water to people around the world. If you wish to add this to your list for consideration, please do. And bravo to your son for caring for our planet at such a young age.

12. Another excellent one
You guys are helping me so much today. I like to keep these good groups in a sort of rotation list. It occurred to me this morning that my focus has been 75% on wildlife, animals and feeding the hungry -- I'm embarrassed to take a closer look and realize that I haven't done as much for the environmental groups as I should have been doing!

Yes, my son is a born liberal. I really mean that -- some kids are wired like that when they come into the world. You couldn't change him if you tried, it's really great!:)

Let me just give your son a virtual pat on the back for such a great gesture and for showing such interest in so important an issue. And one for you also for teaching him well.
