I gotta say it's been a pleasant day watching the DU Greatest page. Well, in a sense. Most of the stories related to environment/energy issues haven't been good news but suddenly it seems like everyone is paying attention and kicking and recommending threads related to the issue.
Usually the stories just sink like rocks in the big forums or maybe just barely touch the greatest page for a couple hours then quickly vanish. Today it seems there was something up there all day and as like right now there've been a few up at the same time.

We may in fact be approaching the ignition point in awareness required to propel real social change. Once a critical mass of people become aware of and committed to an idea, change driven by that commitment becomes inevitable. We may be very near such a tipping point. While Gore may have played a major role in the USA, this is a global phenomenon, being driven by the tireless efforts of "early adopters" worldwide - David Attenborough, David Suzuki, Tim Flannery and countless others, all chiselling away at our facade of indifference until finally the scales are starting to fall from our eyes.
I sure as hell hope so, anyway.
