OPEC announce we are near peak oil!
OK, this was also posted under http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=115x76020>"Libya's oil boss" but I wanted to draw attention to just who Libya's oil boss actually is in the title of the thread.

Who is Dr Shokri Ghanem, Chairman of the People’s Committee, the National Oil Corporation (NOC) of Libya, and what has he got to do with OPEC?

From 1993 to 2001, Ghanem was director of research at the Opec secretariat in Vienna, Austria, also standing in for the secretary general at times.

So now, with a fresh appreciation of the fact that this dude is not just some Libyan oil guy but is sometimes known to speak on behalf of OPEC....

let's try it for round 2.

From http://www.energybulletin.net/23824.html>page 60 of their report....

while some of the more pessimistic oil specialists are declaring that peak oil has already been passed, or at best is here now, others believe it is not going to arrive before 2010. Some optimists give the world a little more breathing space — that is to say up to 2020, and perhaps even up to 2030. However, all in all, most would appear to agree that peak oil output is not very far away for all of us. It could take place sometime within the next decade or so, which in fact means that there is not much time left for a world economy to be driven largely by oil.

And as noted under the previous thread, it's just another early peak indicator that will get ignored in the silly season.

But after the New Year... you could always have a look at my 2 free peak oil posters and see if your local notice board could do with one. ;-) You'd be amazed to see how many tabs get torn off and how quickly.

2. And George Bush is determined......
to sacrifice as many lives and spend as much money as is needed to ensure that the United States gets as much of the remaining black goo as is possible. What a guy. :puke:
