Japan Will Deploy Buoys To Measure Oceanic CO2 Concentrations - Asahi
EDIT

"The project to measure carbon dioxide (CO2) was announced by officials of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Next fiscal year, the ministry will begin developing a system to measure the volume of CO2 absorbed by plant plankton through the use of buoys.

Measuring the volume of CO2 absorbed through the oceans would help researchers more accurately forecast the rate of global warming and allow policy makers to decide on effective measures to combat it.

The buoys would be equipped with automatic devices to measure the volume and concentration of CO2. The data would be transmitted via satellite to a land observation center for analysis. This will be handled by the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology. Tests will begin in waters off Japan to develop sturdy measurement buoys.

Once the buoys are developed, they can be scattered around the oceans through the international earth observation system that is to be constructed through the Earth Observation Summit."
