Red-Listed Iberian Lynx Facing Imminent Extinction - Bloomberg
April 26 (Bloomberg) -- "The Iberian Lynx, a big cat found only in Spain and Portugal, is in danger of ``imminent extinction,'' according to a report to the European Parliament's animal Welfare and Conservation group published today.

Hunting, road deaths and loss of habitat and prey have led to a decline in the population of the Iberian Lynx in Spain and Portugal to as few as 120 individuals found in only two breeding populations, from about 3,000 in 1960, said the report commissioned by U.K. Green Party European Parliament member Caroline Lucas, and titled ``The Iberian Lynx Emergency.''

If steps aren't taken to stem this drop, including legislation by the European Union, the species will be the first big cat to become extinct since pre-historic times, according to the study. ``The Iberian Lynx is the most endangered feline in the world,'' wrote the report's author Dan Ward. ``The EU has a particular responsibility and ability to act to conserve and recover'' the species.

There are no breeding populations left in Portugal, and one of Spain's two concentrations, Donana National Park in the southwest, with only 35 individuals, is ``too small to be genetically or demographically viable,'' the report said."

1. The Siberian and Canadian Lynx are wonderful to work with
Actually, they are a dream come true.
I don't understand why there is so little concern for these wild cats.

I hope Lynx rufus weighs in on this. She is the only person
I know of who has worked with this cat hands on.
