An Early Start to the (hurricane) Season?
http://www.thestormtrack.com/2007/05/an_early_start_to_the_season.php

A strong low pressure system has formed off the East Coast of the United States (Figure 1). This system has developed central thunderstorm activity while remaining over the warmish waters of the Gulf Stream. Sea surface temperatures underneath the area of activity are below the usual threshold of 26C, however, upper level temperatures are cold enough that the storm could develop some tropical characteristics.

2. Expect strong storms and severe weather
as the Mother reacts to global warming.

3. Gulf temps are starting to creep into the 26C+ range.
I noticed visible change over the last couple weeks, although it's still mostly below the tropical threshold.

4. That "usual threshhold of 26C" didn't mean a thing in 2005.
Nor did wind shear of 20 knots or more. Those storms continued to hold together, defying everything which was previously accepted as fact. Everything we know is now wrong in this Brave New World of climate change. :(

5. remember that 05 storm that survived 24 hours in 55 knots of shear?
Fucking crazy. I still haven't come across an explaination of that.

I also remember voting for Epsilon in the poll about the final Greek named storm and instead we got to what, Zeta? :eyes:

My mother-in-law lives in Pensacola. I would do anything to get her the hell out of there. It's time to close the book on the Gulf Coast and most of the Atlantic seaboard. Just that most people don't know it yet.

Edited to make Green more like Greek. :P
