Gore's Tennessee home on track to meet tough green standards
http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/provider/providerarticle.aspx?feed=AP&Date=20070608&ID=7015475

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Al Gore says renovations are nearly complete on his mansion to make it a model "green" home.

The former vice president and environmental activist had been stung by criticism over his house's energy efficiency. But he tells The Associated Press that plans to make the house more efficient have been in the works for a long time.

Earlier this year, a conservative group criticized Gore, citing electric bills that were far more than the typical Nashville home.

<snip>

Gore has since placed solar panels on his roof, and he's preparing to install a geothermal system that will, among other things, drastically reduce the cost of heating his pool.

<not much more>

2. I like how they throw the comment in about the heated pool.

You can't call somebody the liberal elite if they don't have a heated pool.

That segment of their story had no benefit to the overall story, and is just there to incite a reaction from certain people.

6. That comment was very relevant and I'm glad they included it.
It shows how there are different options available for different needs.

It shows how a concerned pool-owner can take action over the amount
of energy his/her luxury consumes.

It introduces the use of a different renewable energy resource (ground
source heat loop) to broaden the image from just solar cells & windmills.

It shows how the best (undeclared or not) current presidential candidate
is putting his money where his mouth is.

All of the above are actually very pro-Gore points which serve to highlight
his pro-environment approach.

With regard to your "liberal elite" comment, I think you are a little
over-sensitive as there is not one person who is a genuine(*) presidential
candidate who is not in the "rich elite" category. If you think otherwise,
good luck to you.

(*="Genuine" as opposed to the "American Dream" of "anyone can become the
president of this country" bullshit that hasn't been true at any time.)

9. Yesterday at the solar fair
(yes, yes, I know, total granola fest, my friends dragged me) half of the booths were offering solar heated pools.

In California, having a pool is an environmental crime unto itself, nevermind heating the thing. :eyes:

5. One of the great things about Al Gore is that if you give
him a lemon he will make a lemonade. In 2000 he was subjected to the greatest swindle in American political history. He dusted himself off, rose above it, and became an international statesman. Then, on a smaller scale, he was lambasted for his Nashville home, and he turned it into a model of what a green economy would look like.

8. Lower than Dick Cheney's Highland Park Place Was
I'm sure that Gore's post-renovation utility bills will be lower than the utility bills Dick Cheney was paying for his residence in Highland Park while he was CEO of Halliburton.
