Growing US ethanol market may not be able to absorb supply

by Isabelle Tourne
Sun Jun 10, 12:54 PM ET

NEW YORK (AFP) - Government-encouraged efforts to ramp
up US ethanol production, part of a bid to diversify American
energy supplies, are succeeding, but some analysts fear a
glut may be developing for the biofuel.

The boom in ethanol production, fueled by a government tax
breaks and a desire to develop home-grown fuel supplies, has
caused some industry analysts to wonder if the market is a
bubble in the making.

But the infrastructure, for drivers to fill up their cars at an
ethanol-supplying fuel pump for example, is not keeping pace
with the supply side, analysts say.

"Under current logistical conditions, the US ethanol market

1. Well golly gee...
Maybe the word has gotten out that ethanol is not the answer to manipulated gasoline shortages?
That ethanol production is driving the cost of food up and is doing nothing for the cost of transportation?

3. While I'd rather have electric cars or hydrogen cars, ethanol is a start to
weening the US off fossil fuels, IMHO.

4. No is is not..
Energy wise, at best it is a wash. It takes to much energy from oil to produce. Ethanol production in this country is a con game and we're the marks.

5. Ethanol produces just as much Co2 as fossil fuels, just at a greater costs
The only advantage to ethanol is energy independence.
