Afghans burn '60 tons of drugs'

The Afghan authorities say they have burned more than 60 tons of
illegal drugs in a demonstration of their efforts to curb drugs
trafficking.

Piles of drugs were set alight at eight locations around the country,
the biggest being on the outskirts of the capital, Kabul.

Afghanistan produced 90% of the world's opium in 2004.

In a similar operation in Pakistan, officials say around 26 tons of
narcotics were burned in Karachi.

1. Kind of vague

Why did they not say 60 tons of opium poppy unless it was not all opium poppy plants? Did it include any laughing grass to give it weight?

Besides that it is a photo-op thing to put on television to make people think there is serious control over the black market. If it were not for marketing the event would not have happened because the "drugs" would have been destroyed at the first opportunity instead of being collected for a news release and photo-op.
