Dave served on a supply ship during Bush vs. Saddam I. A few years after he was discharged, he joined the Naval Reserve, and he's been in ever since. He got the letter last May, telling him that he was being called to active duty, to fight in Bush vs. Saddam II. I attended a "Come home soon" party for Dave a couple of weeks ago. He's now in Virginia for a couple of months, before heading, you know where. He didn't "officially" know where he was going, but he and his brother figured he was going to be doing customs work, for some reason, either in Kuwait, or Iraq. Dave's brother, cousin Tom served in the USAF, during Bush/Saddam I, but he wasn't in the theater of war, like Dave was. Their Dad, Uncle Bob served in the USMC, in his day. (technically, the Marines are part of the Navy) I had a great time at the party talking to my Uncle and cousins. Incidentally, they're all dedicated Democrats, and vocal critics of President Dipsh*t. Tom even mentioned the Downing Street Memo, and the Rove affair. This was about 2 weeks ago. He obviously isn't getting his news from ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX. I meant to ask him, but I got sidetracked, and never did... Prior to Cousin Dave and Uncle Bob, our Grandpa served in the US Navy during WWI, and witnessed the surrender of the Kaiser in the North Sea. Prior to that, Our Great Great Grandfather served in the U.S. Navy during the Civil War, making my cousin Dave fourth generation U.S. Navy. I can't imagine there are too many people who can make that claim. There's no reason to pray for Dave's safety, since I gave him a good luck charm that Grandpa brought home from WWI, which I'm sure will guarantee his safety.
It's one thing to think that we have an idiot President, who starts wars for no real reason, endangering innocent people. It's another thing, when one of the people is family. The Republicans continually give me reasons to oppose their agenda, and thereby keep me energized to fight against them. I'm now opposed to that war, and their stupid-assed agenda more than ever.
The ones who will have the hardest time dealing with Dave's absence, are his wife, and two step-children. They are the ones who could use everybody's prayers.
