what are your opinions on the book "Dereliction of Duty" |
|
it's supposed to be an unbiased book that harshly criticizes bill clinton's handling of national security and I got to crack open the thing the other day and while it was interesting, there was quite a bit more than just his N.S. policy handling that was being criticized...anyways I was just wondering what you guys thought of the book, and obviously this would apply to people who read the book or read a lot about it

4. Unbiased? I hope you're not serious |
|
Every book Regnery publishes is by a right winger with an ax to grind. I've seen portions of "Dereliction" debunked by people like Sandy Berger. If you've ever seen this guy interviewed, he's a Clinton and Gore hater.

11. The fact that it's published by Regnery |
|
gives away its RW angle. All I know is, there was a part in it where he says aides couldn't get hold of Clinton because he was with Monica. Sandy Berger, Clinton's national security adviser, said that was never the case.

Many military people have also criticized him for discussing things that should be kept "hushed".
Namely, National Security information, that may not be Top Secret, but should not be openly talked about either.
Patterson saw the $$$$ and forgot about everything the military stands for.

I work at a bookstore and can read all the trash coming from the right without having to give them money.
And, it is trash.
The only book with any value at all was "Bias", and that was only for the few pages that discussed how the media puts $$$ before news.
:-)

7. This book is a straight up crock of shit |
|
Clinton actually cut very little of the military budget, the areas that were cut were simply pipe-dreams of PNAC and cash cows for defense contractors (Missile defense shield). Additionally, Clinton spent more time and money on investigating and preventing terrorism than any other president (up to and including Bush). Most of the steps taken by the Bush administration against terrorism were actually recommended by the Clinton administration and in some cases actually blocked by the republican congress.

It was Clinton's military that fought so well in Afghanistan and Iraq.

12. I don't waste time on this sort of drively polemic. |

These morons think Bill Clinton is leftie, when he is really a moderate right-winger.
They think Jesse Jackson is a far-leftie, when he is really a moderate liberal.
God knows what they'd think of a raving anarcho-syndicalist like me, or people like Orwell or Huxley, who could actually think and write about political questions, and who thought democracy was actually a practical way to run a country all the time. Horrors, people running their own affairs, all by themselves, without any guidance from their betters.
