Imelda behind bars next year? - Philippines
The Philippine government said on Monday it is confident that by next year it will have jailed Imelda Marcos, the flamboyant wife of ex-dictator Ferdinand Marcos, on multiple charges of graft and smuggling involving millions of dollars.

The confidence stems from a recent Philippine Supreme Court ruling implying the Marcos clan was "a family of thieves," said Ruben Carranza, a member of the Presidential Commission on Good Government created to go after Marcos's alleged stolen wealth.

After a 14-year legal battle with the late dictator's estate, the Supreme Court ruled on July 15 that $680m stashed by the Marcos family in Swiss banks had been stolen from the government during the dictator's 20-year rule.

The funds represent the biggest known chunk of the alleged stolen wealth, which some experts have estimated at $10bn.
