Syria's Assad says road map peace plan "worthless"
DAMASCUS, Sept. 29 - Syrian President Bashar
al-Assad said on Monday Israel's ''government of war''
had rendered the U.S.-backed road map for Middle East
peace ''worthless.''

In an interview with an Italian newspaper carried by the official
Syrian news agency, Assad also criticised the plan for not taking into
consideration the views of Syria and Lebanon and for not offering a
mechanism for a final solution for the Middle East.
The road map, launched by the United States, the European
Union, Russia and the United Nations, ''has no mechanism. It is based
on generalisations,'' Assad told Corriere della Sera.
''It is worthless and we have not seen it as an active plan and we
do not believe that it will be an active one,'' Assad said. ''It (only) exits
in the media.''

2. I didn't think you liked the "road map"?
In any case what I found interesting in the story was
that Little Assad doesn't seem to be feeling initimidated
like he's supposed to, worrying about being invaded next and
all that. In fact he seems a bit belligerent. Otherwise the
story is just more hot air.

3. French would be seriously pissed
They have some enormous economic leverage and something on the order of stomping out their psuedo-colony government in Damascus would bring on some things far nastier than a UN dressing down.

4. I believe France was considered to be irrelevant in
the planning stages of this thing, a firm grasp of the
nuances of international affairs and recent World history
wasn't considered necessary, since we were considered invincible
or something like that.
