Kenyan editors arrested

Nairobi - Kenyan police on Monday arrested three senior editors of a daily newspaper, a day after it published leaked confessions of suspects in the murder of an official of the country's constitutional review conference, the journalists' colleagues said.

"They were told to go the CID and record statements, they cooperated and after doing that they were told that they were under arrest," the Executive Editor of the East African Standard, Kwendo Opanga, told AFP.

Tom Mshindi, the Standard's managing director, David Makali, the editor of the newspaper's Sunday edition, and his assistant Kwamchetsi Makokha were taken in to custody when they went to the offices of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The Sunday Standard published a detailed police interview with two alleged killers of Odhiambo Mbai, a University of Nairobi lecturer who headed the committee on devolution of power in the constitutional conference.

Mbai was shot by three men who stormed his home in Nairobi on September 14.
