Poll places president in the lead - Taiwan
The DPP ticket has often been behind its pan-blue competitor, but a recent survey has Chen Shui-bian and Annette Lu in front

"The pan-green camp has had the upper hand in these issues and has been validated by the growth of public support, while the pan-blue camp has been passive in responding."

A `China Times' survey
A Chen-Lu ticket in the March presidential election took the lead in the polls for the first time over the rival pairing of Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Chairman Lien Chan (連戰) and People First Party (PFP) Chairman James Soong (宋楚瑜).

A poll conducted by the Chinese-language China Times showed that support for President Chen Shui-bian's (陳水扁) pairing with Vice President Annette Lu (呂秀蓮) was 35 percent, while support for the Lien-Soong ticket was 34 percent.

Although the Chen-Lu ticket was only one percentage point ahead of the Lien-Soong pairing, it was nonetheless the first time the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) presidential hopefuls were first in terms of public support. Other polls had shown the DPP narrowing the gap with its pan-blue rivals.
