BRUSSELS, Jan. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- The European Commission (EC), the executive arm of the European Union, extended Friday warm welcome to the latest progress of the relations between France and Libya.
A press release issued by the EC said the EC "warmly welcomes the latest positive developments in the relations between France and Libya," referring to the signing of a compensation deal between Libya and families of victims of French UTA airliner DC-10in Paris on Friday.
EC President Romano Prodi said the 170-million-US-dollar agreement reached between the Kadhafi Foundation and the families of the victims of French UTA airliner DC-10 was "good news for everyone."
"I salute the efforts of the French and Libyan governments," said Prodi in a written statement, noting that the agreement marked "a decisive turning point in the relations between Europe and Libya."
