Five bookies caught with NT$9 billion - TW
Five bookmakers were arrested yesterday for allegedly constructing a gambling Web site and accepting bets on the presidential election, while a total of NT$9 billion was discovered in nine of their bank accounts.

The National Police Administration's Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) held a press conference yesterday to announce the arrest of Hung Chung-ching (???), 51, Wang San-ho (???), 43, Chen Chen-lai (???), 39, Chang Bi-hsiuan (???), 19, and Wang Yi-ting (???), 42.

Officers said this was not the first time they had arrested bookies handling bets on presidential election results but the NT$9 billion was the most they had found from illicit betting.

Officers from CIB's Central Headquarters worked with the Kaohsiung City Police Department under the orders of Kaohsiung Prosecutor Lu Hsing-ling (???) to investigate the gang for more than a month.

1. Over $250 million US, enough to help swing an election.
One of Bush's scandals is receiving money from Taiwan as I recall.

2. As I remember, a Taiwan CPA told me there is NO type of legal
financial cooperation between Taiwan and the US. If you look at the history of Formosa/Taiwan being against China, I would guess there is a pile of secret cooperation between Taiwan and the US.

I think Taiwan is more of a financial haven than the British Virgin Islands. And the way a place is a haven is because it's a secret that few people know of it.
