KMT heads ready to roll over poor election result - TW
By Huang Tai-lin
STAFF REPORTER
Tuesday, Apr 20, 2004,Page 3

High-ranking officials with the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) are ready to step down to take responsibility for the party's defeat in last month's presidential election.

Speculation is rife that officials such as party Secretary-General Lin Fong-cheng (???), Organization and Development Affairs Committee director Ting Shou-chung (???) and Cultural and Communications Affairs Committee Director Alex Tsai (???) will announce their departure at tomorrow's Central Standing Committee meeting.

"While I have yet to receive any command , I have tendered my resignation and am ready to go anytime," said Tsai, who doubles as the party's spokesman.

Running on a joint ticket with his People First Party (PFP) counterpart James Soong (???) in the March 20 election, KMT Chairman Lien Chan (??) was defeated by incumbent President Chen Shui-bian (???) by a razor-thin margin. Lien has refused to concede defeat and is contesting the result in court.
