How SA banks are ripping you off
By Lauren Cohen

South Africans are encouraged to deposit their money in banks, but they are seeing their hard-earned cash swallowed up by spiralling bank charges.

South African banks have been accused of "ripping off" their clients and charging for all transactions, even depositing money, while most overseas banks provide these services free.

Describing current charges as "outrageous", some finance experts say banks are an "unofficial cartel".

There is growing anger among throngs of South African bank clients over ever-increasing bank charges - and yet another big hike was announced by one major bank earlier this month.

1. What about Credit Unions?
I stopped using traditional banks 20 + years ago.
