Arroyo vows to fight attempt to derail May 10 elections
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Monday vowed to fight attempt to derail the May 10 elections and assured that elections will push through as scheduled.

"I shall fight any attempt to derail the May 10 elections and the people are with me. All enemies of democracy must be forewarned to stand down from violating the popular will," Arroyo said in a statement.

"We will not allow a few desperate power seekers to prevail against the tide of national unity, democracy and the fight for change in the lives of our people," Arroyo added.

Presidential aspirant Senator Panfilo Lacson said Friday that "adventurous elements" from the opposition are floating a plan to scuttle the elections.

He said part of the plan is to launch a large-scale rally of various political groups on May 1 to protest Arroyo's use of government funds for her political campaign, which, however, has been postponed.
